Expert Q&A: Terry de Gunzburg

“The genius of make-up, the guru of colour”, Terry de Gunzburg can do no wrong in the beauty world.

After an illustrious career in the upper echelons of luxury editorial shoots and in-house at Yves Saint Laurent, de Gunzberg began to realise that she had it in her powers to create her own make up line.

Eager to fully embrace her passions, explorations and sharp understanding of women’s needs, she created BY TERRY, the first “Haute Couleur” and “Couture” make-up line, an original beauty concept in her own name.

What is your background?
I come from a family of doctors/pharmacist so I  started studying medicine, then I rebelled and switched to be a make-up artist, as medicine was not for me.

How did you get to where you are now?
By being creative, and by working hard.

What do you feel was your big break?
Inventing Touche Eclat for YSL, it is my beauty ‘Nobel Prize’.

What’s your number one beauty tip?
Never go to bed without cleaning your face…and smile.

What is the future of the brand?
The future of By Terry is in the fact that we use premium quality pigments and ingredients to create innovative and luxurious yet accessible products.
