Every year for the Emmys, feminine elegance and full-on vintage glamour sum up the overall look. The 2006 ceremony was no different, especially when it came to hair. Nothing says “I’m a Hollywood goddess” like a celebrity crowned with the darling of the red-carpet hairstyle: the updo. It’s vintage and it’s modern. It can be chicly undone or it can be taut. It’s soft and subtle, yet it’s sexy and stylish. Heidi Klum’s take on the updo: a romantic Grecian-inspired style. Try it yourself; take the updo off of the red carpet. Use these tools to create an upswept style all your own. —India-Jewel Jackson

After hair has been washed, conditioned, and blow-dryed, apply a dollop of volumizing mousse to your hair. Separate hair into small sections and curl each piece into a ringlet. Gather curls just below the crown of your head and secure into a loose ponytail. Strategically pull several ringlets free from your ponytail. If they’re too long, adjust tendrils by pinning them so that they’re a bit shorter. Top off your new do by lightly misting it with a holding finishing spray.
