Even if you haven't been to one of event planner Mindy Weiss's fetes, you've certainly seen them. The nuptials of Trista and Ryan, Nick and Jessica, Gwen and Gavin, and Heidi and Seal were all Weiss creations. But lately she's been working on a lot more than parties that send paparazzi into a frenzy. Along with her great gift and wedding site, shoploveme.com, she is feverishly finishing a book that is sure to be the mother of all wedding guides when it’s released next year. Still, the belle of the Beverly Hills ball graciously paused to share some entertaining tips and advice for brides-to-be—including the inside scoop on what can make or break any wedding day. —Erika Lenkert
What's always in your refrigerator?
Fresh vegetables. I love small Israeli cucumbers … I eat them like potato chips.
What quick recipe do you tend to rely on when entertaining last-minute guests?
I always can make a quick bruschetta. Tomatoes, garlic, basil, and olive oil—what could be easier!—and a delicious crostini to put it on. We love fresh bread, so a French baguette sliced
and spread with olive oil and a schmear of toasted garlic …yummm!
Fast table-decor tip?
Of course candles … but I pull all different types of containers for the candles, like votives and old silver stands. But my favorite little last-minute filler for my table is my vase collection. I cut flowers from my garden, and it looks like I planned forever.
Current favorite party favor?
Books! If it’s a birthday, I find a great profound book on aging.
Secret to being a good host?
Never look like you’re exhausted from preparing, make it look easy, and keep a good sense of humor.
Is there anything that ensures a guest won’t be invited to your next party?
Negativity, insults, and tardiness!

Big weddings are back. Couples try to keep it small—but they end up inviting everyone!
