As a world leader in a variety of cosmetics such as skin care, personal care, and fragrance, Revlon offers a vision to grant glamour, excitement, innovation, class and originality to modern women through their fantastic products. Revlon embraces a long list of diverse brands, namely Revlon®, ColorStay®, New Complexion®, Revlon Age Defying®, Almay®, Ultima II®, Flex®, and Charlie®, all of which are currently sold in roughly 175 countries. The company was founded in 1932 by Charles and Joseph Revson, and Charles Lachman, a chemist who contributed the letter “L,” which replaced the letter “S” in the Revson name. Success came in the midst of the Great Depression when the creators produced opaque long-lasting nail enamel. What brought them even more recognition, however, was when they contributed their efforts directly to World War II by developing first aid kits and dye markers for the navy; they were honored with an Army-Navy Award for Excellence in return. Within six years, Revlon’s popularity helped it become a multimillion dollar industry. During this time, Revlon began to produce manicure and pedicure instruments. During the 1950’s, Revlon launched nail enamel and lipstick promotions that tied directly to seasonal clothing fashions, and was able to increase their sales by turning to television advertisement. It wasn’t until 1955 that they first offered stock to the public and the following year, Revlon was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Charlie® fragrance was introduced in 1973 for the young, working women’s market and by the mid-70’s, was the number one fragrance in the world. 1975 was the year Charles Revson died and Revlon President Michael Bergerac took over and continued to expand the business. With his leadership, Revlon became the number one brand in mass market cosmetics. Since 1932, Revlon has developed a long-standing reputation as a trendsetter and a leader in the beauty world. The brand provides today’s women with many resources needed to achieve the conventional Revlon vision that provides women with the vivacity, enthusiasm, and creativity that all women strive for.
